From the app
Settings › Report a Problem writes the email for you, with the app's version filled in, so you only have to say what happened. If a call sheet, Exhibit G or pay stub read wrong, you can attach it there too; black out names and numbers first if you'd rather.
Works on
iPhone, iOS 17 or later.
Quick answers
How do I add a day?
Three ways, all the same job underneath.
Today: tap Start my day on the Today screen. Add the call sheet if you have it (the app reads the show, the date, your call time and the addresses), or just type the call time. At wrap, tap Wrap and add your Exhibit G: a picture of it fills in your times, meals and the stunt adjustment.
A day ahead: tap Book a day on the Today screen, or on the Calendar tap the day and then Book Work. Not sure yet? Mark it a soft hold and confirm it later.
A day you forgot: on the Calendar tap the day, then Book Work, and type the times from your G.
How does it know what I'm owed?
From the SAG-AFTRA contract: your rate, overtime after 8 hours, double time after 10, meal penalties, holidays, 6th and 7th days, travel and the rest. The app keeps the rates up to date.
Today's pay counts up while you work. The job's page shows every line of it, and a note on anything to check on your pay.
It's an estimate by the contract, as close as the times you entered. Your pay stub is the final word, and the app helps you compare the two.
Something read wrong from my call sheet or G
Every read is a head start, not the last word: the app asks you to double-check what it found, and everything it filled in can be changed on the job's page.
If a paper keeps reading wrong, send it from Settings › Report a Problem (black out names and numbers if you like) and the reader gets better for everyone.
When should the check come?
Money › Paychecks shows every job waiting on pay, one card per show and week. The app asks a week after you work whether the check came: tap the circle when it does.
If it's late, the card says so. At two weeks, call production (the app has the number from the call sheet, and a script). At four weeks, it builds the claim for SAG-AFTRA with your papers attached.
How do residuals work here?
Download your residuals list from the SAG-AFTRA website (Export Results) and import it in Money › Residuals. Every check goes onto its show, so a job's page shows what that show has paid since.
A small LN on a check means it was paid to your loan-out company; To you means paid to you with taxes taken out. Residuals by Year splits the two for your accountant.
Residuals usually start about 3 months after a TV episode airs, 5 for streaming and 8 for a movie. The show's page counts it down.
What are residual alerts?
Nobody knows when residuals come until a check shows up. With Residuals alerts on, when someone on your show marks a residual check in, the others on that show hear that theirs is coming. Nobody can tell who it was: the signal is just the show, the kind and the period, never a name or an amount. It's off until you turn it on, in Settings or at setup. The privacy policy spells out exactly what is shared.
What leaves my phone?
Nothing, unless you send it. Your jobs, pay, papers and residual list stay on your iPhone, and the app never sends anything to anyone on its own. Emails and claim packets go out only when you tap Send. Residual alerts, if you turn them on, share the show and the period, never you. The privacy policy has the full list.
How do I move to a new phone?
Settings › Back Up My Data makes one file with everything (jobs, papers, residuals, settings). Save it where you like, and on the new phone use Settings › Restore from a Backup.
What will the app remind me of?
A check that should have come, a residuals list worth downloading again every couple of months, and, if you turned on residual alerts, that residuals for one of your shows are out.
Reminders are quiet first (a flag on the card) and only become a notification if nothing happens for a while. All of it is in Settings.
Is this from SAG-AFTRA?
Check the Gate is an independent app made by MKWorks Inc. It is not affiliated with, endorsed, sponsored or approved by SAG-AFTRA, the SAG-AFTRA Health Plan, the SAG-Producers Pension Plan or the Directors Guild of America. SAG-AFTRA is a registered trademark of Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, used here only to describe the union and the agreements the app refers to. All figures are estimates from the public agreements. The app is not legal, tax or financial advice and does not guarantee the accuracy of any figure, rate, deadline or rule; your contract, your pay stub and the union are the final word.
When the app opens a SAG-AFTRA page, that's their website, inside the app, and nothing of yours goes with it.
The app's own Help (Settings › How the app works) has the full set, with pictures.
